Opening the door for revenue-driving applications
Sagem Orga announces collaboration with Spansion to develop new mono-chip solution

Prague, April 25, 2006
SIM 2006: Smart card expert Sagem Orga announced today that it is collaborating with Spansion {NASDAQ: SPSN}, the world’s largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, to advance its large-memory XXL ON card. Based on a single-chip solution, it will incorporate Spansion’s new family of secure, high-density SIM-card chips, which were announced in February this year.

Sagem Orga plans to highlight use cases for the new XXL ON card at SIM 2006, Booth 27, using an existing dual-chip solution and demonstrating applications such as management of a large phonebook and secure content distribution (music, video, games etc.). Addressing the industry’s need for both increased memory and security, a mono-chip solution is the combination of logic and Flash memory. It enables large-memory SIMs that provide high performance and secure storage of mobile applications and services.
"Since we announced our plans to enter the high-density SIM chipset market in February, we have received a very favorable response from the industry," said Tom Eby, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of Spansion. "Cooperating with Sagem Orga, together we are able to work closely at the system-architecture level to enable content providers, mobile applications providers, operators, handset and SIM-card manufacturers to create new revenue opportunities."
Sagem Orga has been part of the Safran Group since 2005 which also incorporates Sagem Communication. It is realizing the benefit of working closely with a major player in the handset and broadband industry, offering a full-system solution to meet the market needs.
"In a multimedia oriented market, SIM cards with high-storage capacity are bringing cutting-edge applications to reality. Around the principles of SIM cards in the GSM industry, operators will be able to offer rich content that can be stored in the SIM card, and consumers will benefit from easy access to personal storage," said Thierry Buffenoir, deputy CEO of Sagem Communication.
